My feed lately is full of designers asking some version of the same question: is this still a good career, and can any of us keep up with how fast everything is changing?

So I was glad to see Ioana Teleanu getting real insight into it with the Design Wellbeing Index. I filled it in this week, and it felt surprisingly good to answer honestly. Also, very designer of us to put a metric on our own wellbeing lol.

It also got me thinking about what’s actually helped me this year, and for me it’s been getting closer to where product decisions are made. AI makes a lot of my work faster, but someone still has to make the call, and you can only really do that from the driver’s seat.

So many good designers struggle to get their point across, and I’ve been there too, so being closer to those decisions has honestly made me a lot more confident in my work.

If you’re a designer, the survey is open until November 10th: designwellbeingindex.com

Getting closer to where product decisions are made is the one thing that has helped me most as a designer this year.

My feed is full of designers asking whether this is still a good career and whether any of us can keep up with how fast everything is changing.

It's always valuable to refresh your memory when it comes to design, especially if attention to detail is something you do daily. Reminds you to focus on the big picture and the functionality of the product. Happy to take this course offered by CalArts, a great institution which has inspired me to go into a visual field. #design #certificate

A course from CalArts, the institution that first pulled me toward a visual field, just sent me back to the basics of design.

I'm glad I took it. When attention to detail is your daily work, it's easy to lose sight of the big picture.

Refreshing your memory brings the focus back to what the product is for and how it functions.

The more you sweat the details, the more you need a course that reminds you why they matter.
